SAINTE-GENEVIEVE ESCARPMENT

QUEBEC CITY (QUEBEC), CANADA

Project
Linear park in the provincial capital
Client
City of Quebec
Year
1999-2008
Status
Proposal

Since its French colonial days, Quebec City’s distinguishing geomorphologic feature has been the escarpment that divides the upper city from the lower. Years of industrialization have led to the area’s neglect. We propose to revitalize it by planting two strings of tall, noble oak trees, one at the top and the other at the bottom of the ridge. The space between the tree rows will be seeded with the beginnings of an urban forest, restoring the original ecology of the area and providing a new park on a key site for the city’s landscape identity.

Surface
10 linear kilometres
